I don't remember my dad ever check mpg. But I remember when he had a 1995 Ford f150. It was lifted on 33" tires. I know it got terrible mileage. But I remember gas went from like 1.25 to 1.50 and he threw a fit! My dad was a bit explosive when I was a kid.

He sold it and bought a jeep wrangler that didn't get much better mpg!

1978 when I started driving we would have like $10 between two of us, and we'd put $5 in gas and spend the other $5 on girls in the next county over... Oh those were the days.

In 1983 the year before I was making, my dad was making about 10 dollars an hour.  But about a month before I was born in 1984 there was a large coal mine drop(about the same that's happening today) and dad went down to making 4.50 an hour(min wage was 3.35).  Then when it mining picked back up in the early 90s, he went back up to making good money again.

Since I didn't smoke (cigarettes), I could buy 5 bottles of BF Strawberry Hill at $.99 a bottle.

I had a 57 Ford Fairlane 500 - 4 door with a 312 motor

In 1969 and 1970 I drove form Des Moines, Ia to Denver, Co. for tech school and I was getting around 28 MPG

I had  friend that moved to Denver and he set it up to run in Denver.

Before he set it up it do not like going into the mountains, after he set it up I had no problems going to 10,000 feet.

It should did like running in Des Moines less than 1,000 feet
