My new computer arrived yesterday and man is it sweet!  The first thing I have to get used to is how quite it is.  No cooling fans all passive cooling.  The next thing is I now have more room on my desk area because it is so small.

After checking out several different computers and reading reviews on them I decided for the $$$ I could not beat the ChimpBox. I got the Intel MOBO with the quad processor, 16 GB of Ram, 750 GB 7200 RPM HDD.  It came with PCLOS KDE installed so I didn't have to mess with removing windows and installing PCLOS.  It has a 1000 mbs Ethernet, problem is my router is only 100 mbs but also has a wireless.  The only draw back is it doesn't have a DVD but I figured with all the other computers I have around here that should not be a problem if I need one.  Besides DVDs are dying anyway.   It also came with a LiveUSB/Recovery thumb drive which you don't see anymore.

After all these years with my old dual core this thing is incredibly fast and smooth.  Here are a few pic's of it. Please excuse how messy my desk is. Moveing everything around really messed things up.

You can see how much of a difference there is between the Chimpbox and my old desktop.

The one draw back I have found is when you get it you have to change the root password and if you have not done that before it can be a bit of a mystery.

There is usually a jumper you pull on the MB to enable the PW to be reset if you don't have it..  (Or call the FBI cuz they can crack anything)

Looks like it is about the size of the Dell 7010 I just picked up.  It is a quiet one too.  With the quad core and 16gb of ram it will last a LONG time with Linux.

I guess these are not your usual name brands of puters??  I have no idea of most of what you stated about it, heh!  I'm not so happy with my Dell with W10 I know, BUT, What DO I know?   It's mostly working for me now.  I'm too dumb to learn a new way.

That looks like a great little box there Bill.

They what me to add a fan though if I throw in the second 1 TB drive.

I was wondering why you went with intel and after looking at the specs I see all those extra USB 3.0 ports.

Maybe a guy should think about an external usb drive instead of going the internal way.

Grumpy stop putting your self down,  If you are able to work with Win 10 you would have a field day with any OS something like Mint.

Don't forget we are here to Help.

Wow that is a big difference. My desk top is about five years old but has been a very good one. I had a D_ll before that...total junk. I like your back scratcher on your desk...nothing like a good back scratch while sitting.

Usually I would go with AMD, I've had really good success with AMD, but the USB 3.0 got my attention plus the optical connection.   I have a 1 TB external connected to the computer so I figured 750 GB and 1 TB would be enough at least for the near future.  I also have a 3.0 and 2.0 hub on here, it doesn't take long to run out of ports.

My only change would  have been a SSD but I get the additional cost thing.

Actually it comes with a small SSD drive standard but I'm not totally sold on SSD drives yet.  I've been reading to many stories of how data just disappears after a time.  At some point in the future I think SSD drives will be all you will be able to get but I just don't think they are quiet there yet, although I do have a 1TB external.  Compared to my old computer this thing fly's.
