I have a 1980's GT 18hp with a 6 speed high/low transaxle. The manual doesn't list the type of oil to use. Any ideas. Thanks.

What kind of shape is your GT18 in? I have one too, bought it new, but I think it needs a float for the carb. Onan parts are like gold if you can find them.

Ive herd to use regular motor oil in it - mainly for the fact that the tolerances are so tight , has mostly all gears inside - the other reason would be for cold climates - heavy oil wont be picked up easily by the gears .

I actually put a whole quart of Lucas oil motor oil additive in my 86 GTII ( im down south) - stuff sticks to everything it touches - figured if the stock trans in one of my mod tractors has held up with it in it, should be good enough for a stock tractor.

I also have a 90's GT6000 that came with a non running onan 20HP twin - basically thats a parts machine - too bad because its one with all the bells and whistles .
