Removed my fenders and shifter cover and found a not normal hole; which is 3 1/2" x 5 1/2" and shows unfinished edges like it was cut with a torch. At this time; not sure what ID is for the transaxle, but will check that next. Anyone know what original hole size was? Any suggestions as to why it was tampered with? Thanks.

The hole on mine measures 3X1-3/4, maybe they were trying to get to the drive belt idler tensioner. Gotta love those previous owners, if it weren't for them the rest of us wouldn't have anything to do.....

I bet shifter trouble. Lots of work to remove correctly with tear-down of most of tractor. Easier to just whack a bigger hole in it from top and lift the parts right out and thru that bigger hole. Who cares what it looks like after, long as it works right again. And THAT'S my story.....or really THEIR story I should say!  Lots of these tractors we fix have bent or missing tins, whacked out areas to make less tear-down work of the repair.
