Almost 3 years and finally got the 650 going

Its been almost 3 years since I got this 650. Someone along the line replaced the original engine with a 7 hp Briggs. I would've left it on it but there isn't the right bolt pattern for the starter/generator. I finally located the correct engine after looking for a couple years but it had some issues.
The biggest problem was the hole in the side of the block! I welded a patch on the outside and filled the how inside with jbweld. I don't like using that stuff but I didn't want to get the block to hot welding it and warp something.
The next issue was the crank. The Rod really chewed it up bad. Finding one seemed to be next to impossible but I found a .020 under rod and had the crank ground to match instead.
Now it runs pretty good but the carb needs a bit of work yet. I bought this thing with the intentions of using it for a butt buggy at shows. Now to get all the bugs worked out of it and give it a paint job one day, looking forward to spraying some cordovan brown!

Forgot to take some before pics of it. The nice thing is the patch is hidden behind the starter/generator so its not obvious.

Need to put weights on the front wheels yet. The plan is to make a hitch to bolt on the frame of the tote on the back to pull the Bolens cart I got a few weeks ago. With the aluminum block engine I figured I need some extra weight on the front to steer around.

Love that 'tool box' you have behind that 650.  I bet you do need front weight when you get  load in that tote.  Be like lifting a plow.

Nice job on the engine.
Looks like the patch'll hold and all will be well.

Also, :thumbs: to that tote. Both machine and attachment have survived well.

The Wheelbarrow pan on the back is just awesome.

Is that a Sleeve hitch deal or is it a stand alone attachment.

Thats a factory option from Brinly,mounts off the rear axle,you don't see many around anymore,most have rusted out and wound up in the bone yard,that one looks pretty decent,good job on getting it up and running again

Brinly did make it in a sleeve hitch version, but they also made it in several brand specific versions.

It is in pretty good shape. No cracks or huge dents but one of the top corners is rusting through. I'm sure it sat leaning against a shed for some amount of time to rust there.

Nice repair on the engine & nice tractor.

 

JB Weld is fantastic stuff. Bodged up.........err repaired many things with it over the years & sets like stone

 

Thought you had the delux seat fitted for people with larger bottoms than mine :D

I have a 650 and 750 I want to restore together one day. If I remember right the 650 was only made In 1966. If I'm wrong correct me but I thought I herd that one time

I think it was a one year model.
Is yours easy to snap a couple of pic of the carb where the choke cable is attached? I know I'm missing some parts but can fab something up with some pics.
