Try This Brian.

The system may need to be restarted to complete the removal.

If you do not want to see the update any more be sure to hide it by right clicking on the KB3035583 listing in "Windows Update" and selecting Hide this update.  This stop it from being reinstalled again with the next update

Brian install the GWX control panel and be done with it.  I've not heard any issues with it and it seems to work quite nicely.

Yes it gives you flexibility and should keep the monster at bay for a while.

This is what I did over the weekend with the Win7 machine I rebuilt with a new SSD and a fresh install of Windoze.

Since M$ is on a big push to get Win 7 & 8 users to move to win 10 I'd suggest checking back at least once a week to see if there is an update.  I have a feeling that it is going to turn into a cat and mouse game between GWX and M$.

The windoze 7 I reinstalled about a month ago is still bugging me to upgrade to 10 and a few days ago decided that I had a bootleg version of 7 and is now pestering me about that. I installed it from a factory disc. Why are they worried about people using an OS that they dont want to support anyway

The stupid part is I have a laptop 30 feet away running the same W7 OS installed at the same time, from the same CD and probably the same IP from the repeater and it is not complaining about any illegal copy of windows.

There is your problem!  You can't have the same windows installed on two different computers.  A little thing called a product key told them that you installed the same install on two different computers.

Renamed the GWX folder and it upsets the Win 10 apple cart..  Haven't heard a peep out of any update info since..  The update software never starts because the registry just can't find the program..  Stoopid puters!!

Steve Gibson, Steve is a long time well known software developer, has now thrown his hat in the ring with the forced windows 10 update.  If you want to keep your Win 7 or 8 installation now there are 2 free applications that will prevent Windows 10 from installing.

Here is an Infoworld article comparing both both applications.  There are links to both apps if you would like to install one or the other.
