We had a little over 1/4" of rain on already damp ground so time to work on the yard.  Pulled the aerator over it all which yielded about 1.5 hr of seat time.  Then pulled the roller over it all diagonally to flatten out the night crawler high spots.  Will probably have to roll it again before mowing but the was another 1.5 hours seat time.  We have several Hybred Willows around the yard.  Nice trees that are pretty and give off lots of shade but life span is short, about 15 - 20 years. They also shed a lot of small limbs through the winter.  Anything about pencil size and up we pick up.  The smaller ones get the mower treatment with Gator Blades.  Another 3/4 hr seat time.  1/2" or rain last night so no seat time today.

How long have you had the willows and how tall are they now?

I bought 10 just shy of three years ago, and grew another 30 off of last spring's pruning.

We planted them in 2002 or 2003.  Most are over 50' tall now.  Only pruning we did was to the lower branches so we could run the rider under them.  Plan ahead and get some others started good before you have to take the Willows down.  I planted a couple volunteer Cotton Woods several years ago.  Nice shade, fairly fast growing and long life.  They have a nice sound when the breeze is blowing through their leaves.

That would give us all several hours to think up a witty comment instead of going "Whaa???" at 5:30 AM while working on the first cup of coffee.

I have techny arborvitaes planted in row inside of the willows.
