Why, oh why would they have done something like this?

I have one of the 18082 2000 RPM PTO units that I want to put on the HDT1000.

I was lacking the piece of bent flat stock that holds the sway chains, and when I mentioned that in a post here, ClassicBolens PMed me and said that the had on and would sent it to me.

It got here today, and once again I have to thank him for his help.

However, I now have another problem.

Bolens, in their infinite wisdom, decided that instead of just using the standard PTO shaft to connect from the front of the tractor to the attachment, that they would use one just for it and nothing else :wallbanging:  :wallbanging: :wallbanging:

Here is what it looks like.  It uses the standard lock-on part at the tractor end, but at the attachment end it just slides on and is not fixed in any way.

So, it looks like I'm going to have to have one of the longer shafts modified, of get REAL lucky and find the proper shaft.

The part number for that shaft is 172 4734 just incase anyone happens to have one laying around  :D :D :D

BTW, they did the same thing with the 540/1000 PTO units as well.

It's the same part # driveshaft that came with the 18093 tiller. 50-5/16" length.

I have four or five similar shafts in storage, not sure if they are the right ones as they were given to me by a guy that did not know what they were for. It may take me a few days as we are in the middle of construction but I will dig around and check them out for you. As I said it is a long shot but worth a try, I will get back to you early next week and let you know. Good luck in the mean time and hope for the best. Eric.
