I have yet to have had the pleasure of checking valve clearances. Will that require me to take the head off again or can I do that through the inspection area? I do notice that the exhaust valve spins as it is going up and down and oil comes out of the area that it is spinning on. The intake does not seem to be spinning or having oil ooze out of that spot.

No, the head does not have to be removed.  ....You can watch the valve stems through the valve spring chamber.

Your exhaust valve is probably equipped with an exhaust valve rotator.  ....The rotation extends the life of the exhaust valve, which is exposed to much higher temps than the intake valve.

I also inadvertently checked for spark with my body as I grabbed the metal part of the spark tester as I was cranking the engine over. I got a good laugh out of that experience, I could feel the electricity travel from my left hand to my right hand that was holding the key. It was shocking for sure lol.

I also got a good laugh from your experience. I am sure most everyone has got a good shock once or twice

Still trying to figure exactly what I am doing here. It looks like I should be measuring below the spring? Except the exhaust side is different than the intake side. The intake is raised all the way up in this picture.

The throttle was hooked up with a piece of tape. I am gonna have fix that. The new oil I put in last fall will also get changed as it is now overfilled. Not sure if it's gas from all my attempts at starting it or what so I will just replace it.

Glad it's running, Nice when all the pieces finally come together.
BTW, I can't watch it, something not letting me with the iPad.
Do you happen to have it on YouTube?

nope not on YouTube but maybe Facebook. It's interesting that you cannot watch the video on the iPad as the video was made with my iPhone . It's not the first time I have ran into compatibility issues within the apple brand.

The tappet adjustment was interesting as it took me several rotations before I found something to measure. Trying to figure out what to measure by looking at the picture in the manual and looking at a parts list is like learning how to be a dentist by looking at a picture of a dentist with his hands inside somebody's mouth. Both sides were off and after I adjusted them I could tell by rotating the engine by hand that it spun much smoother.

Or you could just ship me the FEL to work out the kinks for you.
It is one of those things that is done best with a 5 to 10 year study.

so I guess I am gonna have to wait a bit to put that FEL on after all. I took the tractor on a test drive and it died, the starter got really hot and was smoking . The starter sheave itself was to hot to touch.

Any idea why my starter generator is smoking real bad and then stops spinning? The engine then Boggs down and dies.
