It has an electric clutch on the back, and a cut-off shaft sticking out of the front.  It came with the fuel pump an a freshly cleaned carb.  Any idea what this is off of?

The coupler on the flywheel reminds me of what New Holland and the early Ariens with the Vickers used. So something from the early 70's.

Thanks Shorty.  That would make sense, as the engine came with the Ariens GT18 I just got.  I've never seen a NH in person, so I couldn't verify.  Is that the electric clutch that was used on those as well?  It's different than the clutches on my other K series Kohlers.

The NH tractor of that era where built by Ariens, just painted a different color.

I don't think that is a K341, they have 10 head bolts, your picture shows 9 head bolts, could be a K321 - 14hp ???

Good catch Doug, The K-241 thru K-321 all use a 9 bolt head. He needs to measure the bore to see what it is or pull the flywheel to see the block stamping.

Good to know.  I was just going on what the guy told me.  Honestly, I'll probably never use it...hopefully.  I have enough projects around here at the moment.

TD&H...I am aware of the NH machines, I've just never seen one in person.  I now have 6 Ariens GTs (one parts machine), so I'm pretty familiar with those.  :D

If the tag with the model and spec # is still readable the Kohler website is pretty good about saying what it was originally put in when you use the parts lookup.                       Stewart

I can't say for sure on the clutch. It has been a while since I worked on an early Ariens. I am sure other manufacturers would have used a similar setup in the same time era.

The tag wasn't readable.  I tried that route.  I was hoping someone would recognize the flywheel & clutch setup to identify what it was off of.  I guess I'll have to measure the bore, if I ever get to tearing it down, to identify the HP.

Thanks TC!  So the output shaft/adapter on the flywheel and the PTO clutch matches what you have on your tractor?  That's great if it does.  At least I know what it goes to now...not that I couldn't make it fit something else.  :D

no not quite. NH designed and built them originally and then sold the line to Ariens.

he's incorrect it isn't from a ford I think he meant just the engine model itself was used in a ford
