Got the call today saying my new injector nozzles were in so we dug this old brute out of the corner.

Hope to have it going again this weekend.hopefully a fresh set of nozzles will fix the slow spin up.

Hopefully you will not find the issues with your HT20D that I found with mine. First there was the agony of finding the parts to fix the non-functioning starter, only to find the problem that relegated the original engine to the spare parts shelf: the front part of the crankshaft was separated from the back part. Ouch!

I was fortunate enough to connect with a guy back in NJ that converts any HT20D he finds to Kohler power, and he sold me another WD2-860 from an HT20D. That one did not have a broken crankshaft!

So I go it buttoned back up today. Runs Much better but still isn't 100 percent. Has plenty of power and spins up good now but still smokes white bad when cold or under full throttle. Reset valve lash and changed fluid and filter in the hydro.

So what's the timing gear issue everybody talks about on these ducatis?

For what ever reason, the timing gear isn't keyed to the crank shaft, It's just a press fit, and it can slip.  Especially if the engine get too hot.

I was told by a long time dealer that running on a slope can result in oil flow problems due to the location of the pickup tube.

He recommended to run it a bit 'over full' to prevent the problem if I used mine on slopes a lot.

As for the white smoke, mine does that until I run the engine hard enough and long enough to get to operating temperature and then it goes away.

Got the tractor running decent again after new injector nozzles and setting the valve lash still has a couple issues that need addressed but motor is much more responsive and has a ton more power. Finally got to work it hard today after I got the iron and blade back on.

Did the white smoke go away after you worked it hard for awhile?

At Part throttle the smoke is almost gone but when I try to go full throttle it still smokes white and has a little stumble.

My thought is injection timing is a bit out of whack as the po has messed with everything on the motor and it seems they didn't know what they were doing.
