I am in need of a new ignition switch for a Tecumseh OH140 engine off a Craftsman tractor. I was given this engine and don't know what model tractor it came from other than it was a Craftsman older model. It has a solid state ignition if that helps. Anyone have any idea what switch will work?
Thanks,

Jim

Jim, I don't have a number but you need to make sure the switch you use has an M terminal on the back and that has to go to the kill wire. It has to have a G term that needs to go to ground. Those 2 should show continuity when the switch is off and open when on. That is the only post that should show contact to the M term in any position. I'd even test a new switch just to make sure. Those ignitions are sensitive enough that they don't need an errant switch.

Almost any Teccy based unit's switch
Never, never apply power to the cdi. It is ground out to shut down.

If that doesn't make sense, PM me.

The Sears 14/6 had a Tecumseh OH140 (14 hp, 388 cc, 1 cylinder). The switch number from that owner's manual is 4406R.

Here is one source for $10.39 including shipping.

And another for $9.32 (shipping TBD) http://www.jthomaspa...h_4406R_JT-9821

Both include keys.

See switch diagram (from first link) below.

Good luck,

JiminRI
