If I concentrate on the frame, it looks great. But, man 'o live are those rims dragging that thing down.....   :rolling:

Good luck with the steering wheel!

It looks even nicer outside  in the sunlight - sure does make the paint look nice.  When I redid my first 1050 I wondered if it had metallic in the paint but it was so weather beaten I could not tell and as a result I just went with a close brown colour in acrylic enamel .  If I ever repaint it again I will probably go with the metallic.

I'm in the same boat as you, I think we're going to have to see when the metallic ended if it did at all, I'm almost betting it was used the whole run and we never noticed. I think we were all suckered into the ''Leather brown" so many posted on the web as a match years ago on the old groups.

I am not sure if all the later 1050's had the metallic but I now believe the early ones did.  The first 1050 has the white steering wheel and after seeing the paint on Rick's 1000 I am convinced it had the metallic which blended in so well as a "rusty look" that I could not tell.  The second 1050 has the black steering wheel, the hood and transmission cover had the newer style decals and the hood does not have the cut out for the exhaust (may not be the original hood) and I did not see any evidence of metallic in the brown paint on it - it did not have the same "rusty look".  I believe both tractors were the 192-02 model as I could just make out the 02 on the stickers but the serial numbers were beyond readability.  I have attached pictures of the area around and under the serial number from the 1050 with the black steering wheel - unfortunately I did not have a digital camera when I redid the first 1050 so I do not have any before pictures from it.

Ok, got the steering wheel done, the color is a little off but was limited to colors with this type paint, there was some black showing through and I took a gamble on doing this, with the rubber coating most paints don't dry and are sticky to the touch,I sanded this real good with 120 wet dry sand paper, wiped it off with lacquer thinner, let it dry, then applied paint in thin coats, you only have a 4 hr window when appling it, I'm real happy with the results, I used Krylon ColorMaster,Ivory Gloss,(Wal-mart)

If you want to go all out on a steering wheel, Eastwood sells repair and recoat materials. (No, I don't work for them)

The Throttle assemblies were not painted at the factory, they were white originally

I had some pretty bad ones I soaked in bleach and scrubbed they look almost new.
