A self etching epoxy primer is the way to go now a days. My dad who has done car work and painting all his life speaks like its the next great thing sense slice bread.

One good thing about self etching primer is that you can now get it in a rattle can from Rustoleum. At least we can get it here in Canada. I've had good luck with it.

That is what I use, Brian. Seems to work fine!

Well made some progress today, picked up some more primer to finish up the other parts, made some head way on getting the frame paint,Bolens 1000 gave me what he had for a color match,my neighbor gets a huge discount on Sherwin Williams products,I have decided to go with a single stage Acrylic enamel, gave him the info Brian gave me(paint number) and they were able to match it up ,turns out it is a AMC color from 1965,(same paint name)I did a test sample on the air cleaner,it's a very good match,I think we finally got the right match, will know a little better when I do the frame

I'm eager to see your results, can you share which paint you will be using? I'd like to do mine as well sometime this summer.

It's great when you can find a matching paint source. It's going to be one of the sharpest 1000s out there once you're done.
