My wife called their customer service to ask for an explanation of our telephone bill. There is an item on our bill that is labeled "My Frontier Hot Spot" and is charged $6.99 a month. She asked for an explanation of what that was. She talked to four different people who gave her four different descriptions. None could agree or perhaps didn't want to say what it was for. Finally, she got someone to fess' up. It seems back when we had Verizon service, this was a fee for modem service and repair. When Frontier took over our area service, they discontinued this fee. They didn't apply it to new accounts. But they left it on the existing accounts unless someone called and asked. No! They don't give refunds and we've been paying this for nothing for several years.

Guys, you have to check your utility bills with a magnifying glass!

Amazing! I have heard for years about going thru your bills so hna fine-toothed comb looking for hidden fees. These things and the phone scams preying on the elderly are what really gets me. My mom was called and was told the IRS was going to audit her and put her in jail if she didn't pay a fee. She called my hysterical! Luckily she didn't give them any info. I called the cops and they said it was an old trick many fall for.

A man from  the IRS was on TV earlier this year telling the same thing. It's a bad scam right now!

Here is one for you.

I've used woodforest bank for several years. When you first got your checking account they had a fee of 9.99. I never paid attention every month 8 years I paid 9.99. Found out last month this was only supposed to be for 6 months. That's 500 bucks I paid them for no reason.

I suppose I just would of wasted it anyway...m

there's no reason anymore to have a Lan line. we got rid of ours almost 10 years ago. $40x12months=$480 a year x10years. wow I saved almost 5000 bucks

5 years ago we got rid of the Internet and just use our smartphones. so I saved another 3000 bucks.

if I could I would dump the TV too

I am the same way. But not everyone has cell phone signal.

My parents have a land line since they have no signal and don't have cell phones.

We have one good reason, no cell coverage, we're in a pretty deep valley.  Verizon just put up a new tower, I can see the top of it from my house, still no coverage.  I was informed the tower is for data service only, no voice.  Guess that's where the money is.  What a crock!

We still have a landline and internet, cell can be iffie, and need wifi for the computers, ect.  We have Frontier as well, I'll have to tell my mother who takes care of that (yes I still live at home) to double check the bill.

Many people I know rarely call people, they usually text instead.

Another class action suit to come? Card in mail asking you to join for refund? Get those a lot lately.

that's a whole another topic most of them are legit but I never follow through with them. it's really interesting to see the final payouts which you can follow on line. the we were in years back said we were getting a settlement check of less than a dollar and the lawyer fees were somewhere around 85% of the final

It seems that any long term contract like utilities, will get a few extra charges on it. When you are ready to switch or cancel, then all of a sudden they want to keep you.

Just seems like utilities can just add extra charges anytime. Our water department has add a debt charge where they borrowed some money for improvements and electrical bill added an availability charge (its there where you use or not so you pay $10 month) Just unreal.
