Bought a new router tonight, son was visiting, he connected and tweaked it for us, speed on download on the PC went from 80's to 178 mb with 6 wireless devices connected. My iPad under the same circumstances, went from mid 20's to low to mid 90's mb. Of course I'm throttled at 12 mb upload speed by the provider. That's a major improvement, and shows that your network is only as good as the weakest link.

Yes WOW

If you are Throttled to 12mb how do we get 80-120 mb down?

Just curious how that could be.

My service is only 7-8 down and 1.2 up.

I have no idea, but that's how Comcast does it with the Blast service, at least here. And I'm getting 175-178 down on the pc. You'll see the upload shoot right to near 12, then it starts bouncing around 11.80-11-90's. I'm not a computer guy, but my son is, that's his living, he works for ICE and formerly with General Dynamics and 3Phoenix. He says most providers that give you big numbers only do so on downloads, he describes it as "a one way high speed connection." He was in the room when I read this so I asked. Early this morning my iPhone was getting 108.

Downloads are usually faster then uploads.  As toppop52 said the network does make a difference.  Most old computers have a 100 mbs Ethernet card in them and older routers are also set to 100 mbs So if you have a fairly new Ethernet card and or router that can run 1000 mbs and have an ISP that can provide that type speed you will have an extremely fast web experience.
