This is the box that came on my 2010 Ariens mower. It had an assembly defect and was promptly replaced by Ariens. It had too much backlash and howled like a stuck pig. They also sent me a replacement set of gears for my trouble. They are a top-shelf company, at least they used to be.

Nice!  Just what I was looking for.  Does that zerk distribute grease throughout the gearbox, or just to the lower bearing?

I guess if you pumped long enough but you would probably have almost as much grease coming out through the output shaft seal. The best and most (only?) practical way to fill the box is to remove the top cover.
