1556 03 pto display engagement issue

So ever since I got the 1556 brought back to life the pto has been a little weird. It's never total disengaged. Tractor has new idlers and new belts from Brian.

After adjusting the pto in the axle and trying a few different belt guards it still does it.

I have noticed the pto idler doesn't totally kick out. If I grab the idler and pull it out everything disengages. Is there a spring I'm missing?

I've only had this issue on the 72 and later style pto lever.

If you pull up the parts manual there is a spring that attaches,its number 26 on the diagram,other than that try to lube up any moving parts in that area

The #26 spring is only for the hydrostatic drive belt tension, the PTO tension is held by the torsion spring #15. When the PTO is engaged, the torsion spring holds the idler against the belts. I have had problems with that shaft being tight where it goes through the bushings and not allowing the idler to dis engage far enough. Other than that, the pulley v grooves must not be rusty, and the position of where the PTO shaft bolts to the axle support must be correct when it is dis engaged.

Yep forgot about the torsion spring,I have seen them break before

You say that you have to pull it out a bit to get it to disengage?

 

There is a roll pin that connects the PTO lever to that shaft.

 

Try holding the shaft while holding the shaft to see if there is any play in it.

 

I could be that the hole for the roll pin is ovaled out.
