Regarding your ad, the stickers may all say JD, but in spite of that, this machine is not a John Deere.
I believe it was built by simplicity and could have been badged several different ways.  It was not green and yellow to start with and yes, they do mow very well.

BTW, Your ad has garnered the interest of several people on an online forum about such machines.
There has been an influx of people painting machines Green and Yellow, putting some stickers on it and trying to pass the machine off as something it isn't.
They are waiting to see if you correct your ad before flagging

Good Luck, hope you find a good home for it.

I'm going to guess that the guy selling it doesn't know that it isn't a JD, and is just one more victim of one of those no class 'JD clowns' that slather green and yellow paint and JD decals on anything that they can.

Call it 'brand bashing' if you will, but you see it from a certain segment of the JD owners over and over and over again. Even on this forum.

The thing that puzzles me even more is that the very same people that do this are the ones that will loudly proclaim that anything JD is superior to every other brand on the planet, yet they want to claim some 'inferior tractor' as a JD?  Gotta be some sort of special thinking there.

What get's me is that the true JD enthusiasts just stand back and let this happen.

If anything THEY should be jumping on those guys for misrepresenting/diluting their brand.

I know that I'd be 'highly vexed' if someone tried to pass off some other brand as a Bolens, and I'd damned sure let them know in no uncertain words.

Well, I got a response.

So your saying this tractor is not a John Deere? I bought this over 20 years ago and this is the way I got it, that explains why I could never find the model #
what should I do?

So, what questions do we need to ask to help him find the truth?

he did change the add to say he didnt paint it like that and he has had it for 20 years. He also mentioned that the JD dealer had a hard time finding the right parts. So he now knows it isnt a JD but doesnt know what it is.

I like the bug headlights. It looks like a simplicity tractor to me. Worth having and repainting to me, maybe try wheelhorse red this time!

Can't be a deer; price is too low.

Other than desperately needing new paint, tractor looks as it has a few nice features; deck, rear lift, plow, weights, and not a bad price if it runs well. Too far again for me.

Well, I got a response.

So, what questions do we need to ask to help him find the truth?

Looks like a 75-76 simplicity 7010 or there abouts, at least that will give him a ball park model/year. Give him the Simple Tractors website and let him search for a similar model.

He changed his add to state he was told it's not a JD so at least he's listening unlike most people.

I could not agree more.  Their finest mowing model ever, I'm sure!
