I noticed few more older Monty owners coming on site. Thought let you know if your having any trouble with points or condenser get a electronic transistorized ignition module like the Nova II . And do away with the points and condenser. Works great on the older Briggs with one magnet flywheel. And no one changed to battery ignition. Old thumpers start so much easier. I've had mine for years still working fine.

You can get them on ebay or google for small engine parts store in your area that carries them.

Will they work on the cast iron single cylinder Briggs? I know the Briggs OE electronic retrofit does not work on the single cylinder cast iron models.

I have it on a old 16hp Briggs cast iron. As stated if it has points and not a battery ignition coil and single magnet flywheel it will replace the points and condenser.
