My uncle called and asked if I would fix this it was locked up and the shop told him it was junk. I took the blower housing off and the starter gear had a broken tooth that was stuck in the flywheel teeth 25 dollars later it was fixed. Shop probably didn't even look at it. I called him to tell him it was fixed he told me to just keep it , because he bought another one. He paid 2k dollars for it a few years ago. It works really good it throws about 50 ft. Has the triggers on the bottom to steer each wheel. I never had something this nice. Nor would I pay that much for a blower! It is a toro 828lxe

It seems like shops are focused on new sales any more. Maybe their mechanics are not able to fully understand the problem. Nice blower.

Thats a very nice blower!!

Nice to know a person can trust their local mechanic.  :(

Many years ago my uncle had a Swisher Big Mow that quit moving although it ran fine.  He took it somewhere and they looked at it and told him the tranny was out and it'd be 4-5 hundred to fix.  The Big Mows cost less than $600 brand new at the time.

He brought it out to my dad and with 20 seconds of diagnosis my dad saw a pulley turning that the shaft wasn't.  A new keyway and it ran for many more years.

Sounds a lot like my experience with Little John, the STX38, last summer. Never trust a shop that sells new stuff to repair old!

Holy crapoly!   Those are top of the line. That machine looks like new.

I had a smaller used 8hp Toro years ago and when it had issues shop fixed it...the damage was $400 but it was definitely worth fixing as the shop owner said ,,price a new one here if you like!

Way back in the day my dad's neighbor scored them each a deal on top of the line Hoover vacuum cleaners.

After about 5 years the neighbor's quit and he took it to the shop.  They told him it was shot and sold him a new one.  Knowing my dad was a tinkerer he brought the old one home and gave it to dad for parts.

Dad really didn't want to keep the whole thing and reasoned that the motor was what he'd most likely need (not sure why he decided that since the motor was "shot") so he decided to strip it out and junk the rest.

When he pulled the bottom open he found a pair of panties wound in the impeller.  Pulled them out and it worked great.  That vacuum got another 15 years use in their vacation home.

I have the 826 model. they work really well no complaints. I started spraying it with no stick cooking oil that really helps with the chute not clogging up

He is a good guy, but I couldn't just toss a blower that cost that much over a starter gear and buy a new one. He is crazy. He only used it a few times
