I got a Bolens 1053 with a good deck and and extra deck gearbox( might be for an estate keeper?).  Traded another tractor for this one.  Maybe,  a good Bolens Year for 2016 considering I got my first one ( 1254 ) last weekend and got another this weekend!!  Got this one as a running and driving unit but the clutch would not disengage.  After looking at it some I determined the pulley was stuck to the driveshaft and not able to freewheel when disengaged.  Little oil fixed that problem.  Not sure if it works yet or not since I have it up on my work table but I will find out tomorrow.  Here are a few pics....

That's a good looking tractor!
Mine usually have a lot less paint and a lot more rust.
Seat looks good too!

I had the same issue with the clutch on my 1054 last year. The grease in the needle bearings had dried out and the needles jammed up. I took it apart, used pb blaster to get out all the dried grease, then flushed it out with brake cleaner once it was all loose, then greased it all up again with wheel bearing grease and good to go.

I am a little jealous that you have two new machines already this year. I have called about a couple and have not heard back.

Wow very nice. I'm actually a bit jealous lol. All the bolens up for sale around me have either been restored or are over priced.

Glad to see my 1053 has a decent looking brother running around here. That solo gearbox is off of a 38" tubeframe deck.

Nice find.

ok, i got it driving ok now, it sounds like it has either a rod knock or something when you give it throttle and then it goes away once its at that rpm a couple seconds later....not sure, either way its a heck of a good parts machine
