So i picked up a berco 48" snowblower last weekend and plan on putting it on the HT20 with the 2 cylinder kubota diesel.

20160103_122131.jpg  also 48" with the side wings

Replacing this single stage with

comparison

Using the mounting frame off of a blower that the auger is in bad shape on

I stripped the belt drive system off the berco. The input of the blower is opposite of the pto on the bolens. The bolens also spins at 2000rpm which would give a tip speed on the second stage of the blower of 7588ft/min. about double what it should be even if it had the power to turn it. To solve this issue i found a reducing gearbox made by Hub City. The Model 22 with a 2 to 1 ratio and with it being a gear driving another gear it will reverse the rotation as well.

I was thinking of doing a two stage set up for my 1050 and g12. Already have the big 2 stage for the ht20. But a smaller one would be nice with small snow falls. Looking forward to seeing progress.

I have thought about building a 2 stage blower for my tube frame Bolens as well. I was thinking of converting a walkbehind blower, but I would need a gearbox like the one you bought to make it work. I looked up their website and found the specs on it, but I did not see a price. If you don't mind me asking, how much did the gearbox cost?

I this gear box going to be enough?  ie, 875 rpm out, and max input hp 1.07.

This sounds a bit light to drive a 2 stage 48" blower.

"Standard Duty, 1750 Input RPM, 875 Nominal Output RPM, Bore Dia. 5/8 In., 2:1 Nominal Ratio, Max. Input HP 1.07, Max. Output Torque 77.2 in.-lb."

There are about 15 different model 22 gearboxes. The one you listed is 5/8 bore. Definitely not for a snowblower. The one I got is 1" shaft size and I believe 17hp rated. My engine is around 14hp.

380 plus shipping. More than I'd like to have spent but I feel it will be worth it in the end for a clean and trouble free installation.

That sounds better, I just opened the link and read the specs.

There seem to be lots of old Bolens blowers around, at least here.  Is it worth it to convert one?

And from answers here, it seems they are available in drives in both directions.

Wow very interesting. I've got a RAD 44" two stage on my DGT 1700 and would love to be able to put similar onto my 1886. This is going to be a good thread to watch. Best of luck this.
