i have a craftsman II ic gold 12.5 model #917255430 would like to know when it was made .I dont believe it is to old,but just curious.

I don't know where to look up the year myself. Maybe someone will help date this soon.

I am going to take a stab at it and say latter 80's but I don't know how to date the Craftsman. You might be able to post the serial number of the engine too, someone might be able to help date it from that as well.

Yeah It looks like mid 90's to me
The older ones had all metal on the hoods and looks like this one has plastic on the front

Usually motor numbers will get close on the year.

According to Sears Parts Direct MODEL NUMBER 917.255430 should have BRIGGS & STRATTON ENGINE - MODEL NUMBER 286707, TYPE NUMBER 0441-01

my lt 4000 had a 12.5 in it when i got it but the motor was shot so i put a 16hp v-twin van in mine it gave it a twist

Well, the hood design and color scheme was used from 1990 through 1995...the 12.5 hp engines first made an appearance in - IIRC - 1991, so between 1991 and 1995, if that helps any.
