When I bought this tractor it had lift spring issue, So since im repainting, im going to fix this problem..The thumb button would not return completely and the lift wouldn't lock, so I would have to pull the button up and the mower deck would stay in the up position. Here are  my questions, The rod when it was in the handle with the thumb button removed was binding as if the rod has been bent a little(no big deal I can free that up) MY big question is what is the set screw for in the handle?? I look it up on the parts diagram and I see nothing it needs to hold, I would assume it hold a bushing to keep the rod in the center of the main handle..and last question is how long is the button spring roughly I can get at the hardware store..i got some pic for you guys to look at.thxx a million for any help

I had to replace the spring in a couple of my deeres.

one was broke and other one the spring was worn out.

got them from mother deere.

when I put the rod back in I put some grease on the rod, which helps a little.

If memory serves me correctly, I believe the set screw keeps the lift handle from turning once installed.
