Today I went to pick up another GT. This time it was a JD 285. The guy said it didnt run, but I didnt realize he tore it apart to find that it didnt run. So I bought it cheap. I reasembled it. I found it needed an igniter. I had one on the shelf.lol It runs like a top now. Its a 23 hp liquid cooled Kawasaki. Ill get some pics tomorrow.

I will get pics tomorrow. I like this series. They seem strong, and very well built. The 265 and 285 will out pull the 140 with no problem. Plus the 265 and 285 are grown up size tractors. Im a big fella

It was a sweet deal. I gave $150 for her. The guy couldnt afford the igniter so he just wanted it to have a good home. He didnt want to sell it really. I made me promise that I wouldnt part it out until I tried to get her running. I called him and let him hear it fire off and purr. I almost feel guilty . lol
With the new battery cables, igniter, fuel pump, battery, and the fact that he put new 23x 10.50x12s on it right before it quit, I cant hardly sell it and make anything on it. So I will just keep her clean and fed and work her ass off. By the way it has a great 48 inch deck under it.

Now that is a steal, the 285 is a fairly capable machine, especially at that price

23 hp? It came out with a 18 hp Kawasaki engine - some were fuel injected. The 285 was made from 1988 to 1991.

I'm a little late to this post because I'm new. Did you post the pics in a different post? I was under the impression that the 265/285 were more the Home Depot type tractors. I didn't realize they compared to the older 140/300 series.
