I was curious if anyone had swapped a kohler command into a large frame. The k532 in my HT20 is pretty tired, and i picked up a free cub cadet 2000 series with a clean kohler in it. Everything on the cub is decent, but the Rearend must be bad. It won't operate in forward, and will only occasionally grab in reverse while making loud knocking/banging sounds. Are these motors any good? Is the cub worth saving, or should i just salvage parts from it and scrap the remains? Any one tried using an electric pto on their large frame?

Thanks and Merry Christmas

Nick

I haven't heard of anyone going to an electric clutch on a LF.

Wiring will be diff with fuel flow shut-off on carb and different charging systems, AND, some have a starter module on them that is diff than just standard selinoid items.  That is what I find on the newer twins so far.

Youll enjoy the vtwin kohler. A lot of torque with them and fairly easy on gas. And has a beautiful sound to it

Ditto on all accounts. They really do work great in the LF.

that would be the auto-correct on my phone lol. I used Tapatalk to post my reply lol. I meant for it to say "shaft". I wasn't sure what I would need to have machined in order for the Command to fit in place of my K532.

Austen, do you have any pictures of your motor swap? I'm curious how you adapted your's into your tractor. I have so many projects to work on, but am hoping to pull the motor sometime this winter and start mocking up everything. I also need to pull the motor in my HT23 and replace the front hydraulic lines and starter so that I can use it while the HT20 is being worked on. If this swap works well on the HT20 using the Command 20 - I may try to do a similar swap on my HT23 in the future. My goal is to keep both of them running well into the future. I apologize if I missed the post with pictures of your swap... i'm racing the battery on my laptop... and it's about to die lol. Hopefully I find the charger so I can see your reply lol.

Thanks,

Nick

Hey Nick,

This is Steevo's old tractor. You may remember him posting the project on MTF several years ago. Here's a few of his project threads that relate in particular to the engine swap that you might find helpful.
