My twins Mom used to make an amazing chocolate pie. She got the recipe from a Searchlight cookbook that our daughter has now. I will have the book tomorrow and plan to recreate her pies for Christmas dinner. I hope she stands over my shoulder as I try to do this! I watched her many times over the years, but never paid that close of attention. The pies were out of this world, nothing close to what you find anywhere! I think the twins will be happy to have a little of Mommas cooking again. Wish me luck!

I've never made calf slobbers (meringue) before! That should be fun!

And I call anything white you cover a pie with calf slobbers (except vanilla ice cream)!

Those calf slobbers are easy, just be sure to add the sugar after the egg whites are foamy and then continue to beat until they are stiff.

Kenny, when ever you make calf slobbers, ( LOL) makes sure you use confectioners sugar instead of regular sugar, they stay nice and fluffy way longer.;-)
Kenny, remember, to remove 2 tablespoons from the sugar for calf slobber.

A question on the vanilla flavoring! Will pure Vanilla extract be the same as the imitation vanilla flavoring? Going to get the sugar above today and need to know!

I found the answer! Extract it will be.
