Hey guys new to the forum. I have a Craftsman gt18 with the 18hp Briggs on it. The fuel pump seems to be working, but it wont run. If you pull the fuel line going into the carb and put it in the choke hole on top, it will run. I've took it apart and put fresh gas soak for an hour or so, just to clean any gunk inside with no luck. Any suggestions? Also theres a flat spot on the carb where it looks like something might bolt to it, but i havent been able to find any pictures of a stock carb.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Normally the model number on Sears sold GT's start with 917._______________
Not always, but more often than not.

If you can't find it, post up some pics and we will try to narrow it down.

from what I've gathered it's missing a fuel pump?!? Yet it appears to have one mounted somewhere else.

Yep it's missing the Fuel pump. The fuel inlet hole for the Old fuel pump gets blocked off when you take the auxiliary inlet plug out and screw a nipple in the carb.

I can't understand Why someone would replace the original 3 bolt pump when a Full carb Kit with New fuel pump diaphragms is only around $25.

Betting that your fuel pump is weak and the Main jet is clogged up a bit.

Fuel pump I can't help you with rebuilding or cleaning till you get some numbers off of the Pump.

The Main Jet is located inside the Float bowl. You can take it out by 1st removing the Brass bowl nut just below the Choke cable. Most of them require an Allen wrench to remove the Jet.

After you remove the Jet Spray Carb cleaner through the jet and sit aside. Then take the top of the carb off and spray every hole you can find till carb cleaner shoots though Clean.Let the carb sit and dry out for a couple minutes then reinstall the jet and the top of the carb.
