Can't remember the year but not that old. I removed the memory and did the BIOS beep test and it says the processor is bad. It's a HP Slimline s5-1414 computer. Can't get into BIOS at all.

i3 processor dead?!?  Whoa...

Just got to watch that as it had some adware hidden somewhere on it!

Then in that case boot off your Mint DVD after you have it slaved in and remove the files you want then you can either reformat the old HDD or just remove it from the pc.  The adware can't run in Linux.

My office used to look like that, with old computers.  Still have a few but got tired of tripping over them so off to salvage they went.  At one time I would take the old ones and make as many good  ones out of the parts and then give them to needy families that could not afford a computer.  But now a days they are so cheap and all the kids want Apple or brand new I quite doing it.

Looks like you have mostly Dell's.  The ones that work would make good second computers or maybe some type home server.

Yes all Dell except one dead IBM.Looks like 5 up and running. One I think is booting but no video, one password locked and one with no hard drive. All XP and P4 except one Athalon.2 have one gb and the others 512.

These were headed for the scrap along with a skid of servers and some notebooks of which I did manage to scarf a good working Satellite.

Yes like you said,it's hard to give them away and these are really respectable computers for what most people use them for.

My son got here last night and brought down 3 Dell Optiplex 755's. One he is using and we are going to try to put my backup for 8.1 on it. First will be doing a complete backup of his system just in case. That will be this evening and tomorrow morning.
