Think the processor gave out. Won't do anything. Now I have to learn Linux for sure.

My HP Desktop died today!

I have a gateway tower and a Gateway laptop that are both trying to get me to give them the hammer treatment... the tower is 7-8 years old and the laptop is about 4 maybe 5.

My wife's answer for everything is "Unplug it and plug it back in!" I think if smoke was coming out of it, she would still say the same thing.
A good friend of mine always said that motors run on smoke, and when the smoke comes out, the motor is shot!

First time I have seen two nearly identical posts!

Good thing you had a back up system to use. My lap top would really be slow.

Is anyone running an apple. Would this be worth considering as a way to get around Windows and Linux?

What happened? I'd put my money on the hard drive dying if I was a betting man. How old is the machine?

Can't remember the year but not that old. I removed the memory and did the BIOS beep test and it says the processor is bad. It's a HP Slimline s5-1414 computer. Can't get into BIOS at all.

I have Macbook Pro ,,my experience with Mac is they do not become obsolete a few years after purchase.. and you do avoid all this nonsense with microsofton. Mine is 7 years old or more..My son used his Mac for 10 years before retiring it.

Our granddaughter is a Big Apple fan, and all of her friends as well. We were discussing Windows10 the other night and she said that her laptop, which she bought 3 years ago had not given her a moment of trouble. She updates the OS when available and continues on. She also mentioned that all her apple products integrate seamlessly.
