Good score. What is the story behind "Work Horse" anyway?

Very nice! Where and how did you scare that up Ben? Great find. Does the 1100 mean that it's a 11 HP? I had a lead on one of those about 6 months ago. I think it was an 8 HP. The only thing that I know about them is that they all had Briggs engines on them. I'd like to know the rest of the story as well.

I have a friend with some WORK HORSE GT-Series tractors GT-1600 , GT-1800 Automatics one GT-1100 8-Speed he repowered with B&S V Twin engine he told me I will sell this extra GT-1100 to make more room I've said I am interested so today he delivered it to me we unloaded the tractor I test it out and paid him $250 . I think the 1100 stands for 11 HP ?

The Work Horse line up, by Wheel Horse, started in officially started in 1982. They were introduced to the market to compete with the chain store "garden tractor's". They were built just as stout as the dealer sold tractors only they were powered with Briggs engines. Your GT1100 didn't come out until 84 which was the last year these were offered. The model number indeed does indicate the HP and earlier models indicated the deck size as well. In 1984 they were offered with different size decks that could be mated to the tractor explaining the model number changes.

There were 2 previous Work Horse models offered. 1971 offered the Work Horse 800, which was Techy powered (HH80) and 1969 offered the Work Horse 700, also Techy powered (H70).

The Work Horse line was introduced in 1982 to compete with the chain store "garden tractors". They were built just as stout as the dealer sold models, just equipped with the Briggs powerplant vs Kohler. The new body styling was a radical change from the previous years and was the predecessors to the 300, 400 and 500 series tractors.
The 1100 pictured above was only offered in 1984 which was the last year for the Work Horse line.

1982 offered the Work Horse GT1142 8 speed, the GT1642 twin 8 speed, and the GT1848 twin automatic
1983 offered the Work Horse GT1142 8 speed, the GT 1642 twin 8 speed and the GT 1848 twin automatic.
1984 offered the Work Horse GT1100 8 speed, the GT 1600 twin 8 speed and the GT 1800 twin automatic

There were 2 previous Work Horse models offered. 1971 offered the Work Horse 800 which was Teccy powered (HH80) and 1969 offered the Work Horse 700, also Teccy powered (H70).

 jusjeepn Welcome to GTTalk! It's great to have you on board! I want to invite you to head over to the Member Introductions forum and say Hi to everyone! Thanks bunches for the info! Were these models offered for sale at any particular venue? Or were they available to anyone who wanted to sell them? Were the 1969 and 1970 models produced for the same reason?

Jusjeepn is correct. The GT 110 Workhorse was an 11 hp B&S and was only made in 1984. I have one that I am restoring that some one had disgraced it by painting it john deere green/yellow. I have tried to find parts for it and haven't been able too, except headlight bezels, ignition switch
and have only found 1 or 2 units for sale, but to far to drive to get them. I own a small engine repair shop and can get a few new things, but that's it. I'm getting close to finishing mine, but only get to work on it like a half a day on Saturday.
If your unit has the model number plate you can look up the number and it will tell you what; Year/Horsepower/Specs. ETC at www.shoptoro.com
and a parts diagram as well.
