I need something to compete with the race car through the woods behind me and my brother's target practice and small explosives beside me. My brother complains about us mowing the yard even though We wait till mid afternoon. He is going to love it when I roll that throttle open on that mufflerless diesel.lol

Well as of 7:52 pm est it runs! :smilewink:   I could not run it long because the alternator is locked up so I had to cut the belt which also turns the water pump. I did run it long enough to clear out and settle down and she really purrs :dancingbanana:  With my wife working the next three nights my noise making will have to wait. I guess I will spend the time freeing the alt and reading up on how to get a few more rpms out of it to use it in a tractor since these are set to a low constant rpm to run the gen units it came out of.I am a happy camper but now I'm ready to go get the other one I found.

I thought I had found a nice tractor to put it in but it was a Massey 12 and the engine sits sideways in those. Now a 14 or 16  to be a big brother to my 8 would be sweet! Still might go back and try to buy that 12 after Christmas. Guy I am fixing a tractor for is checking on a 16 hp Ford roller for me. Should know on that one Monday.

The speed is easy to change to a normal throttle cable.  Just run the screw back on the low side to desired idle speed, then run the other screw up to the desired high speed, then attach cable.  I can take a pic tomorrow of mine.  You can also use the other arm as a kill if your kill solenoid goes bad.

Oh, and glad she's a good runner!  Have you checked the oil pressure?  Mine runs over 50psi.

I should have checked it but got caught up in it running and not wanting it to get hot. Turned if off before I looked at the gage. I will free up the alt and let here run a while next week. Boy I really had to lean on the glow plugs to get her to fire. I will have to figure out some sort of timer when I put it in a tractor. Next time I crank it I will get some video of it running. Thanks for everyones encouragement on this. It means a lot.

Even 30 seconds seems like an eternity when heating glow plugs.

Yeah especially when the book says six seconds. I found out it had not ran in five years so I guess it took a bit longer. I sure had plenty of smoke though so I knew it was getting fuel. I was surprised how quiet it was without the muffler. I remember them being louder but then I was also trying to sleep next to them.

Put the muffler back on and you'll really be surprised. The two I got had Yanmar's in in them. One of the engines is in the Bolens I mow with and I still can't believe how quiet it is.

Freed the alternator today and installed a new belt. No leaks and good oil pressure so now I need to set the high and low rpms and rig up a better cooling fan. Ran her for about 30 minutes with no problems so I am a happy camper looking for a tractor to put her in.

Yeah it even held that hot. I did not have my good gages here but will install them and set the idle then see what she does. I'm trying to tell myself to not bolt it in my Cub 1050 frame. It will be at least spring before I have time to do anything so maybe something will pop up. Still might try to pick up those other two and get them running. If I do I might sell one of those and keep the other. Time will tell.
