For some reason when I crack the throttle it makes a terrible popping sound in rapid succession.

Since this pic a few days ago I changed out the sprocket for a much less worn used one.   A new chain and sprockets are in order before warm weather returns.

I'd say you got all the goodie out of that sprocket and chain..  They just don't work good when they get that wore down.

All that grime can wear down metal faster than one would think, some don't understand that clean mechanical parts help stop premature failure. Just an observation, a few minutes of pm can save many hours of frustration later. A wire some water and sand can cut through a marble block in minutes add some diamond and that becomes seconds, I wonder what it would do to steel?

I'd say that sprocket is dead. Original one from the 70s? Lol.

I ordered parts for my klx250s to do over the winter. Going to so some hop up and some maintenance.

I had a KLX250 years ago.  Always wanted either an SL or XL250, but never found one I could afford.
