Three of my friends have backed out of updates due to glitchy operation.

The machine at work with the native 10 seems to be running fine.  Actually not bad to operate, but it came loaded, not updated.

It's not that it runs bad or has a lot of bugs, it's what you give up to M$.  Windows 10 allows M$ access to everything on your computer.  It can capture every key stroke take a video of you through the webcam, search through all your files, not to mention what you do on line.  Even if you turn off what you can it still reports back to mama.

Does anything come up when you stick a DVD in? Is the drive even spinning? I may have to research this a bit.

Win 10 has no media player. If you just upgraded to Win 10, you should be able to go to Store and download a DVD player for free. If they want to charge you for it, folks have been using VLC Media Player for dvd's.

Reload the original OS or blow up MS's webpage to get support to give you info how to fix it!  The software is most likely moved somewhere else without the registry reflecting the change would be my guess..  My media player and MS Office up and disappeared on my laptop.  I reloaded Win 8.1 and not any recent updates.  Works fine!

They may be pushing folks away from local software to APPs or external media players and such.  I know MS Office will be a subscription to be paid for over and over and over..   :wallbanging:

It's all just a big scam in my opinion!   :mad2:

I looked into why 10 wouldn't play my DVD's too.  The googled answer is that there is nothing in the system to do it.  I followed the articles instructions and easily got VLC media player.  Worked like a charm.

My son told me there is no media source at all on 10, but I already had a couple of players installed.

VLC is an Open Source project.  I've been using it on the Linux side for years.

There is supposed to be a downloadable program from Microsoft that will play dvd's but no blu-ray's. I haven't tried it yet but I did read that it was available. You might search Microsoft downloads and see if you can find it.

The program I saw that Windows had for 10 was to replace Media Player found in 7 & 8. If you did a clean install of 10, it would not show that Media player was installed before & you would have to buy it. Folks are using the VLC Media player as it is free and does the same thing.
