I've been getting notifications that it was ready for download for a few days. So yesterday I went through a few scans on the 8.1 system to make sure it was clean. Then I did a complete system backup on an external hard drive just in case. After that, i downloaded and installed the new Win 10. Took a while for it to get finished up. So far, I have had no issues and it seems to be running fine. All the programs I have used thus far seem to be working just great. Still have a few I need to check out.

I have win 7 and like it, but Teresa has 8.1 on her laptop and I HATE that OS!   How is Win10 compared to 7?

I skipped past 7, Daniel, so I have no clue what it was like. I setup 8.1 to the 'classic' windows with a start menu and had no problem with it.

I  upgraded from 7 to 10 just days ago and 10 is a lot more familiar to 7 than 8 in my opinion.I tried a Win 8 computer and did not want any part of it but I am liking 10 so far.

Windows 10 is more like W7 than W8......I downloaded it the other day....Only thing I dont like much is this 2 finger scrolling thing on my laptop, just takes some getting used to I guess

Also, if you are on a limited data plan, you need to disable all the extras and the communications with Microsoft, or your data is going to go through the roof

I keep hearing warnings about the negative side of Win 10. Those of you who switched - what were you looking for? I'm fearful of the time when I will be forced to buy a new computer.

I went from XP to 7 and really hated 7 it for a long time.  Stuck with it now but still don't like all the stuff they force you to use, like the Fast Mail, etc.  Finally got T-bird working but some features on it I don't like or are not there.  Outlook Express was working just fine but not compatible with W7. My tech man don't like W8 or W10 so puts 7 on all the machines he sells unless they specify W10.

My old computer (windows 98 upgraded to 7) just wouldn't work properly in modern times and finally crashed. I got a new desktop with windows 10 and hate it. It seems everything is directed to buy...buy...buy, pop ups are endless and can't be stopped, works is extra to buy (they want you to pay monthly for it). I guess I'm too old school. Although the computer thinks it knows what I want, it hasn't a clue.  I don't know of anything that would be better though, as I am obviously very ignorant of new computers. Also I hate this "apps" thing.

Dont know about popup ads, I use an adblocker. I use Opera as a browser BTW, uses less data than the others, it seems......I have noticed that even though I shut off the communication with Microsoft part, they still probably have some access as they asked this morning if I wanted to try these background pics that  came up as I booted my laptop. Makes you feel like 1984 and Big Brother is watching......lol

As for works, I have an old copy of Office 2003 that I have loaded on all my computers over the years. I just put it on my wifes laptop with Windows 2010 the other day. It works fine for what we need (Word, Excel etc)

I'm downloading Win 10 now.  Sooner or later I'll either have to upgrade or switch to a different OS anyway.  Hope I don't regret it.

I have a Win7 machine at home office but had to buy a new laptop for my new office.  It came with Win10.  It runs about 1/2 the speed of the Win7 box, even though it has twice the cores & twice the RAM, and that is even after I spent 3 hours removing the bloat-ware.  For example, Win10 comes with a non-removable app called XBox.  Who needs XBox on an office machine?  Why is it non-removable?  I give it about another week before I take it in and have Win7 installed.
