The high tunnel finally arrived today! it was suppose to be here last week but the delivery truck kept putting it off. It got here just in time for the high winds and rain!.

This high tunnel is 30' wide and 70' long, this is going to look really impressive when we get it up. We got the upgraded metal base and hip boards which are going to be really nice.

Our neighbor/employer brought out his 120hp John Deere with post hole digger and we got 30 holes drilled in a little over a hour. We will half to dig out some of the holes by hand because we hit some pretty decent rock. We broke the sheer bolt twice trying to get through some of the rock. Hoping to start getting post set tomorrow, then we have a 100% chance of rain on Thursday then 60% chance a few days after that. Hoping to get as many post set before the holes fill full of dirt and water.

I will try to keep this updated when ever we get work done on it, the weather says it's going to clear up next week with no rain or wind. The past 3 weeks we have had 20 to 30 mph winds and I'm starting to get sick of it.

Sorry for the lousy pictures, it was getting dark when I was taking them.

Make the GT's healthier being in the sun!

Sun fades them and the rest of the weather destroys them.

We are going to have a fun time reworking the ground after running all the machinery over it!, next we are going to be driving our dump truck all around on it while putting up hoops. I guess I'm going to go at it with our little ripper and go from there.

I've read a little about hoop houses but I'm sure I'll be getting better info from you as you give real life stories about using it , Both good and bad ,what works and changes as you use it

Looks like a great project. One thing I worry about with light structures is wind. Becarefull to anchor things down while you are erecting it. The wind has impressed me many times. Be carefull with the wind. Good Luck, Rick

This high tunnel will have 30 legs, all of them will be in the ground 32", we are setting all of the legs in post set (fly ash) and we are also going to drill a hole in the bottom of each leg and put a piece of rebar across so the legs will have a harder time pulling out. The metal base & hip boards will hold all the post to each other, with any luck all of this will hold it in. We have a 12' X 25' greenhouse made out of PVC pipe and it has held up great.

Sure glad you didn't have to hand dig all those holes.  Wow.  Post hole digging is one job that I despise....

I rented a 2 man gas auger one time.  Only had myself to run it.  Even though that was tough in itself, it was still better than manually digging 28 holes to put up my fence at my old house.

The high tunnel is off to a bad start, we have gotten around a 1/4inch of ice so far, it misted all day today, it's now raining again now and it's 28 degrees. :(

It's suppose to rain all day tomorrow and Monday :wallbanging:. After that the temps are suppose to rise and the wind is going to blow around 20mps, I guess we will see how things dry up, we are hopping to start setting post on Tuesday, but that all depends on how fast things dry up, most likely we wont be able to do anything till Thursday :wallbanging:

Finally, it's now dry enough to get some work done, we got the high tunnel unloaded off the trailer today. We got the holes cleaned out a couple days ago, today we also got 6 post set in, we are putting fly ash (post set) in the holes to keep them in a little better. Hoping to get the rest of the post in tomorrow and we will see what's next after that.

Yesterday we finished setting the post on one side, hoping to get the other side done today.

Also put together one hoop just to see what it looks like, can't wait to start putting them up!
