I've been using the same 1253-01 my dad bought new in 1970, when I was 15. It's partially disassembled now for an engine rebuild, however.

Note: Some may notice that the plastic fuel tank I borrowed it from my 1253-02 is not original to a 1253-01. I'll probably put the original metal tank back in when I reinstall the engine.

In 1973 Those tanks were sold for all Bolens tubeframes 1963-1978 with the wisconsin & Tecumseh engines when the metal tanks were obsolete, so that could be considered "Original" equipment

I originally swapped the tanks because I thought the capacity of the plastic tank was a little more than the metal tank, but according to the -01 an -02 manuals, they're both 5qts. The original tank is in very good condition, so I'll just swap them back into their original tractors when I get around to reinstalling the engine into the -01. Maybe I'll even get around to getting the -02 back into operation someday.

My first Bolens was a 1220.  Got it for a hundred bucks in a package deal on three old rusty tractors   It did have the hydro setup on it a deck and wheel weights.  Smoked like an old tire on fire.   I sold it for three hundred bucks.  Wish I would have kept it now.

My Brother in law gave me his 1050 with blade, tiller snowblower and a trailer 19 years ago.  Still use it regularly
