My bad, left out a couple steps: Remove seat, fenders, fuel tank, everything is fully exposed...then raise the rear up. Top bolt goes in first, then two bottom bolts, an extension magnet on bolt heads works wonders here to hold the washers up while getting the nuts started. This also exposes the backside of Hi/Lo clip which it turns out is rust free and apparently will come right off, per Georgia SS's advice, albeit not necessary now that all else is done.

Now to adjust everything.  Brake doesn't bring everything to a full stop prior to engaging trans axle. Eh, will work that out, at least it stops now...quick!

Patience appreciated guys.

Glad you found the clip! At least you know it has one now!
