While checking for spark on the Wisconsin engine I thought I noticed puffs of air from the carb as it was turning over.  I got my compression tester and stuck it in the plug hole.  While holding it in tight with my left had I reached over and thurned the key with the right.  Suddenly a loud pop and the tester flew out of my hand.  The recovered tester showed about 60 lbs of compression.  I know this engine has a compression release built in so would this be a normal reading, low or is it even an accurate way of checking?

With the compression release, I found a healthy engine normally reads 60-75 on the tester.
