What would you guys pay for a clean good running John Deere 265 with a deck nothing else? I had one present it's self. An was asked to to make a good offer but I don't want to low ball him an lose it to someone else when somebody else off offers more.

I have always stood by the idea that you cant buy and sell something at the same time.  the guy selling has a number in mind and he needs to tell you what it is otherwise you will either be lowballing in his eyes or overpaying in your eyes.  Good luck with it and keep us informed.

I am not going to be much help on that particular tractor but I would say if you don't want to loose it offer the highest you are comfortable paying for the unit and hope the owner accepts. Its a bummer to loose what you really want

Mine, with lug tires & 17 hp kawasaki engine broke a valve around 1630 hours, found a used replacement engine out of a 275 for $375. It is my go to mower, just seems kind of heavy duty. How many hours are on the one you are looking at?. Hour meter is on the dash, kind of upper right hand side.

John Deer's are a well built machine.  But it seems like every one has 3 or 4 week spots and constantly give problems.  I have an F525 with  48" deck.  I keep it maintained and don't abuse it.  I have replaced the plugs and battery, which is maintenance and the traction assist cable.  The problem is with the deck drive belt.  One season is all I can get out of one.  At over $100 each they should last a lot longer than that.  The pulleys are all lined up, nothing rubbing but it seems they last just so long then won't stay on.  Only fix is another $100.  I love this machine with it's off set deck.  Only the F series machines that has this feature.  But I would not buy another JD machine.

The 265 was re powered with a 16hp opposed twin but is complete. The lx 173 runs great but rear end is shot. I'm selling or parting the lx out for a good friend.uploadfromtaptalk1447899826916.jpg uploadfromtaptalk1447899837587.jpg uploadfromtaptalk1447899849352.jpg uploadfromtaptalk1447899861286.jpg

How hard was it to repower the 265? I have one here that knocks pretty good. I also have an 18HP B&S twin that could find it's way in there.

Tonight or tomorrow I'll take some pics of it for you he said it ran great till the starter quit so I'm gonna clean it up an check the starter I'm hoping it's something cheaper then a starter. But I bought this with a friend to clean up an resell.
