Well I finally got the old girl running. This has been a total rebuild including the engine. The engine is not original as my grandfather had switched it out at some point to a B&S 8hp cast iron L Head I'm guessing from the early 80's. The rewiring was a little challenging as I couldn't find anything specifically for the 650 with a gen starter but through other schematics got it together. I do have a couple of other things I could use some help on though and if anyone has anything to offer it would be greatly appreciated.
1) On the back of the motor, though not original, there are some bolt holes that line up with the doghouse- do any of you have any tractors where the engine and doghouse are bolted together?
2) When I move the lever for the PTO it is applying pressure as it should but when I move it back to the off position it still seems rather tight and I'm not sure that it won't continue to engage- any suggestions?
3) The implement lift lever area! I have the lever put back together right I believe but where I'm running into trouble is the dog legged lift arm which runs underneath. The squared off areas welded onto the arm are catching on the foot rest spacers so they aren't moving as freely as I would think they should. I do have implements for this that I would eventually like to be able to use. Pics of this whole assembly would be great as the parts manual for the 650 doesn't deal with the attachment area at all.

Thank you all. Pics soon I promise!:confuse:

1) I would need to see some pics of the area your talking about

2) Sounds like the Spring for the PTO may be out of whack or worn out.

Is this the part your having trouble with?

That is for the mower deck. You dont need it for the other implements.
I'll get some pics of it later today

In looking at it I've got the arms, both of them inside the mounting plate. Is there any possibility that they are offset? I mean one inside and one outside? This seems that it might provide the clearance needed.000_0205.jpg

If I am not mistaken I think the mounting plates go on the outside of the mounting position you are showing in the pic.
