Definitely the switch. The internal contacts between the M terminal and G terminal burn causing a constant ground, has nothing to do with the rest of the switch circuits so it will spin starter,  lights may even work, but still ground out module.

Originally switch was a 4406R, plenty of places carry it, I know NAPA carries one for about $12.

I will go through the wiring again one last time. And then if nothing I will head to Napa in the morning. Still waiting on the acid to clean the tank out and the carb leakes gas real bad still.

So tonight I hooked up a temporary fuel tank and threw a different carb together and tried to start the 10.now I don't know how long this thing has sat,but itit started before the first complete revelution. Not bad, but man does it run like crap. Lol. I set the timing to 009,but it don't sound right. The governer constantly hunts. Backfires the odd time and blows black smoke.i added some ATF to the oil,and sea foam to the fuel. I'm going to let it run some more in the morning and see if it clears up a bit better. All in all, im happy that this thing if finally running.

I've never messed with an MF10 but I do have a 10 HP Tecumseh on my MF8E. What you are describing still sounds more like flooding than a timing issue to me. An over-rich fuel mixture normally backfires out the exhaust, along with the black smoke you described and an over-lean fuel mixture will backfire through the carb. When I was dealing with the flooding issues with the Honda clone engine the governor on it was constantly hunting too.

Hope you got it running better by now!----DAC

Thanks Doug, never got to it today. I finally found an ignition switch for it today. The ole lady was picking it up today for me. So first thing in the morning I will install it and fiddle with the carb settings.
