So I managed to mow most of yard with this machine.  I had to prime it to keep it going when cold but once it warmed up it worked well.  After stalling out several times I removed the blow on the carb and found some large black chunks in the bottom.  After getting those out it ran great until the very end of the back yard then I could not keep it going.  While it is a great machine, it is a fair amount heavier than my old magnesium deck LawnBoy.

Dad had a Tecumseh 4 hp replacement engine put on an old lawnboy, would the engine fit the lawnboy deck?

Forgot to add that towards then end of the back lawn it developed a bit of a surge.  I put my money on stuff in the jet and a bad fuel line.  More when the parts arrive and rebuild takes place.

Finally made time to clean and rebuild the carb then put it to work.  I am impressed with this thing.  Built like a tank but will cut some serious grass. Other than being heavier, it will cut circles around my old Lawnboy.

Another quick update on this one.  Pulled it out of the shed yesterday and it fired up on the first pull.  I used it to trim around the back yard and to take care of the front yard.  It's a keeper.

I bought a new Snapper in 1986 with a IC B&S 4 hp engine and a HD deck.   I remember you could get 2 stroke.  In fact the brochure I got with my mower shows the 2 stroke.  A year or two later a friend bought one of the 2 stroke Snappers.  I paid $600 for that mower but turns out it was a great investment.  Still using it today.  Never had to overhaul the engine and it used almost no oil.  A few years ago I had to replace the height adjustment parts on the deck.  As I remember the parts were very reasonable.  Not sure how good they are today as they were bought out a few years ago by I believe B&S.  All the good companies get bought out then their quality goes downhill.

I used this one again last night.  I am sold on it.  Looks like my old Lawnboy has found a worthy replacement.

Another quick follow-up in case anyone out on the intrwebz is looking for info on these - Machine had a surge while running but not sure why.  Found the carb loose and getting additional air.  Tightened the carb and put it back to work.

I have since fired my repair tech for lack of quality control and poor customer satisfaction.   :bigrofl:

Pulled the beast from the shed and put it to work this spring. Cut the lawn two times and it is a keeper. Also used it to mulch leftover leaves from last fall. It is a keeper.

My guess is a gummed up carb don't have time today to mess with it.

That seems to be common on old two strokes.  :(

So after using this things for one full season and now another season, I wish it had a cast deck which is lighter than the steel deck.  That being said, it is a keeper unless I can make some money with it and free up space in my shed.

Bringing this one back up.  I am looking for the mulch kit (deck plate and ninja blade) for this mower.  The Snapper part number is 7061200 and it looks like I can find it for about $50 shipped on eBay.
