so i found a cub cadet 800 at a auction and it is selling tomarrow it looks nice but i got sick to my stomach when i lifted the hood... there was no engine...i know that this is one of the rarest cub cadets out there, i can get a 8hp kohler and put it in it and i know there are some collectors that would kill for this, so the quick question is what is this tractor worth? thanks!

I think that is the entry level Quiet line. 8hp like you said, gear drive.  Never seen one in person, but have heard of them and seen them online.

As far as worth? How complete besides engine? Pulleys, wiring, clutch etc all there so that all someone would have to do is drop on an engine, or are there parts missing? You can really get in over your head cost wise looking for all the little parts.
Would the drive cup that the driveshaft goes to, be there? PTO clutch? Wiring intact?
What condition is the rest of it in? Any attachments included?

I think just a roller alone could fetch nearly $400-500 if it is a matching kind/code number tractor. It had a production of over 4,000 units...1975. A true K181 correct for for the year and to include muffler/box, starter & breather are priceless. I have had only one in my time and current PO has added creeper, rear lift w\spring assist.

Just found some old file pix before & after. When I found it, it was missing the side covers, very hard to find starter and breather. PO/ collector did a total rebuild on the engine, fresh 935 white but original federal yellow. He also added a sweet set of IH hub caps.
