I'd look into this, but as Kermit the frog said, "it's not easy being green"

And people still have landline phones?

My mom still has one, but technically not a land line any longer, it's fiber optics/digitial.

I would like to add some solar just as a backup, but we have so many trees next to house, we would have to mount 40 feet above the roof.

Maybe out in the fields?

one thing too I learned from the rep and I think alot of people think is that when the power goes out so does yours all the panels do is just back feed they don't supply your home. he told us there was some battery thing that was some additional charge.

Alot of the townships by me put huge fields in to generate revenue on there properties

It is true , I was also told that the battery pack's will be coming out next year by the rep. He said they will be about three thousand installed. I think that's about the price for a stationary Generac or the like.

Still have a land line here, use it quite a bit actually.

What happens when the snow covers them?

Snow rake. Gets a bit tedious if you start getting big dumps of snow 4x a week. If you have to buy the panels they are still stinking expensive. We have not seen the "free offers" as yet. The vendors want us to buy them so you need to pay $50 a month for 5 years at which point your panels have reached HALF their life span and are no longer as efficient
