Wondering the length of belt between the JD 140 engine to the snowthrower ? And is it a model 49 thrower that fits the 140 ? Thanks for any help. Noel

propane1:

That picture looks like the tractor/blower setup that I had for probably 20 years, and I was lucky enough to have a cab for my 140. Yes, it is the 49 snowblower  that fits the 140, and I still have the Operator's Manual (paper and PDF) for it.

I don't know the length of the belt, but the part number and belt specifications should be available at jdparts.com. Most people say you should use JD belts (at least for mowers) because the V groove angle is different than other V-belts.

Also, the OM shows different installation instructions for early and later 140's which might mean the belt may be different lengths.

I was wondering the length of the belt. I am going to look at a thrower this week end. And hope to hook it the the tractor to see if it works on my tractor. It is on a JD 317 now. I don't know if the belt is the same for both tractors. So I was going to take a belt with me if the one he has or doesn't have won't fit my tractor. I have some belts here , so I don't want to buy one just yet, until I know the thrower will fit and work. Noel

Thanks for the part number.

A blower from a 317 will without question work on your 140.  The later model 49 that I have came from someone who used it on a 318.  I bolted it on my 120 with the correct belt.  From what I remember, any Kohler single powered tractor (120/140/300/312/314/316k) use the same belt that Troy posted.

Gates makes a 6846 to replace the M42485. Should also be available from Napa as 4L460W

1/2" x 46" outside circumference

Here is the new blower on my 120 before it got prettied up.  I had to do new hoses for the cylinder and the local napa helped with that.

That bracket on the handle is for the later style mount on the 318 so I used large rubber isolators from automotive shock absorbers along with carriage bolts to attach the handle to the pedestal.
