So Adam woke me up early to go look at a 1477. No big deal, drove about an hour south. Missing a part here or there (and it's in pieces), but he grabbed it.

Decided to drop by a friend's house on the way home, about 15 minutes north of where we picked up the 1477. We made a turn in a small town intersection and see this big dumpster full of metal. Sticking out of the top of it was a tractor.

We both saw it right away and I guessed it was a Case based on the rear fenders. Turns out I was right! We pulled over, Adam ran over and climbed over the side - sure enough! A Case 444 was sitting there. Looked complete with the hood off of it and sitting right below it.

Unfortunately, nobody was around. No name on the building or truck that was sitting near it. So we went to our friends house. I could tell Adam was thinking about it and thinking about it hard. Obviously there was no way we could lift the thing out of there. I told him we should leave a note on the dumpster, door of the building, and on the truck parked there.

He agreed and we drove back. Next to the building was a utility tractor, which wasn't there before. Adam walked to the other side of the building (after touching it to see if it was warm - such a detective!). As Adam just got out of view, a man walked out of the building. I got out of the car and asked him if it was his property and his tractor in the dumpster. He said yes and Adam got to work on making a deal.

Adam asked if he would be able to get it out of the dumpster and if so, we would buy it.

So they got to work.

Got banged up a bit removing it, but there was no way we were lifting it off so we were still ahead.

The man went to grab the deck that was at a house just down the road. We got started loading up the Case (after we unloaded the 1477 off the little trailer). Just as we were strapping it down, a man parked his van/trailer on the other side of the road and walked over. I guess the man we purchased the tractor from told this guy last night to come back at 11:00 to talk about it - they never discussed a price. We were loading the tractor up at 10:45.

So we felt really bad about it, but obviously not our fault. The man came back with the deck, this other guy had a few words with him, and we continued to strap the tractor down. Adam offered the guy the deck since he said he had two other Case's, but he didn't have one that would work with this type of deck so he was mainly interested in the tractor too.

Went and dropped the Case off at our friend's house, loaded the Bolens back up, and home we went.

Of course Adam wasn't done. Before we left, Adam talked to him about this older Kohler generator sitting in the dumpster. Adam bought that too, of course.

Adam was just talking about all these stories he reads of good finds in scrap yards and wondered if that would happen to him. I think he should buy me a couple lottery tickets....

Great save guys! Glad you were able to save that stuff! I just don't get why anyone would throw away a tractor like that!

I originally told him "blinders", but I will gladly drive more if it would help! I suggested the Case be mine since I talked with the guy first. You know how important a first impression is. (:

Plus, you helped him out, because he'd loaded the bin over that "Don't
