SO I recently picked up a briggs Stratton model A engine, I had it running for a bit yesterday but something is wrong with the carb or I am not understanding it correctly.  does anyone have a manual and or parts list for one of these ?  I will also be looking for some parts sooner or later.  thanks in advance

Is it the early or late version of the A? The early A used an odd carb. The late A used the common flow jet.

Pete, gather up your numbers off the motor and contact B&S. I had a national mower with a model A motor on it and they sent me the IPL and manual for free. They may even have that info on their website somewhere by now. It was quite a few years ago.

Bruce did link to the free B&S parts list above

Thats the old carb version, those ones have a cork float if I remember correctly, they are a very simple design , could just have a piece of dirt somewhere in one of the ports

I saw that, I was just adding to the information. A lot of people don't realize that some of the manufacturers are very helpful to those of us that keep the really old stuff alive.

Ok I got the parts list now I need a service manual.  going to get the #s and call briggs.  thanks fella's.  anyone have any ideas where I could get parts for this?  I need an air cleaner and the pinion gear for the crank starter.  probably more when I get into it.
