I was given this Continental lawn mower. Does anyone know anything about them? I am having a hard time finding anything at all.

Looks like an old Western Auto or Otasco mower! I have a rear axle just like it from what I can tell!

Neat-O!

I think the grille looks like a Panzer

I'd be tempted to paint it up like a Panzer just to mess with people.

I was wondering if it might have been a rebranded Panzer. I have found the photos of two other Continentals and they were both red. One of them had "Continental" across the side in white letters, surrounded by a black oval that was trimmed in white. This one seemed to be newer and was made out of thinner metal. The other was like mine and had "Continental" across the front. Unfortunately it was a badly faded paint job and the photo was not that good. Going to stick with the original colors. Hope I can find a good photo of one in original paint.

See my gallery for bigger pictures. Mine has a date of July 1967 stamped into the back of the grille, toward the top. The 7 hp briggs engine is original, also dated 1967. I bought it from the original owner in Charlotte N.C.  years ago. My grille is cast iron or steel. Has a peerless rear axle driven by a pulley.

Just as a side note: yours is the only other one I have ever seen. The picture you found online was mine in it's original color, faded red.tn_gallery_60180_838_3024043.jpg

Thanks for the photos. Great looking tractor. At least I know what it should look like. Looks good in blue. If I didn't know better I would think it was a Panzer. Do you know anything about their history? I know they were made by Continental Manufacturing and Sales in Arlington, TX. I found some old sales adds in "The Rotarian" magazine. In 1979 they sold for $299.95. They even compare themselves to the Mustang that was selling for $529.95. I found adds as early as 1972 and as late as 1983. I would love to find some literature but that would be a very small needle and I do not even know which haystack to start with.

I was told that mine was sold by Lowes, as designated by the L in the serial # . Haven't been able to verify it though. I have found next to nothing on the web.

I have contacted Lowe's customer service, but haven't received a reply. Where were you able to find ad's?

I found one of the ads in "The Rotarian" June 1983 page 55. There are other ones in different issues. This is the only one that I wrote down.
